America will now vote on who makes the Top 20 with one exception. Platinum ticket holder Kenedi Anderson has taken herself out of the competition. After her performance of “Human” by Christina Perri, instead of hearing judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan critique the 17-year-old from Crozet, Va., host Ryan Seacrest revealed: “You will notice there was no voting information during Kenedi’s performance just now. Since we taped these shows in Hawaii earlier, Kenedi has chosen to withdraw from our show for personal reasons. We send her well wishes.” Here’s how the rest of the night shook out. Cadence Baker, 18 Muscle Shoals, Ala. Student “Something’s Got a Hold On Me” by Etta James Lionel: “I don’t know where you found that extra burst of confidence, but that growl in your voice and that presentation was just off the charts tonight. Congratulations. I thought that was just fantastic.” Sir Blayke, 28 Chicago Songwriter “Breakeven” by the Script Katy: “That was a totally different vibe. You gave us vocals tonight that I didn’t know you had. Definitely remember to always keep injecting your own personal style because I think that’s what’s gotten you here to Hawaii, because you’ve got a sound unlike any other contestant.” Allegra Miles, 19 West Palm Beach, Fla. Singer/Songwriter “Adore You” by Harry Styles Luke: “First of all your voice literally sounded like it already had a filter on it. It sounded perfect. Don’t forget to open up your voice a little more and enunciate a little better. But to have come out here for the first time, having separated yourself from an instrument and to get some movement and energy, that’s what this show is about and pushing yourself outside of your comfort zone. Keep doing that.” Kenedi Anderson, 17 Crozet, Va. High School Student “Human” by Christina Perri Lady K, 25 Tuskegee, Ala. Musician “Before He Cheats” by Carrie Underwood Luke: “Great job on song choice. It has attitude, it has angst, and you could feel the crowd moving. I think going forward, I want to hear even more of that angst out of you. We wanted it to get even dirtier and nastier.” Ava Maybee, 20 Los Angeles, Calif. College Student “Tell Me Something Good” by Rufus and Chaka Khan Lionel: “Chaka Khan is not exactly the person you want to wrestle with, especially with competition, but I must tell you, the fact that you had enough guts to do it, and you turned it into Ava, you took it and made it your own and you did a great job. That was risky but you took care of business.” Noah Thompson, 19 Louisa, Ky. Construction Worker “Blue Side of the Mountain” by The SteelDrivers Katy: “That was more like a howdy instead of an aloha. I think you were bringing some of the country to the islands, staying true to your roots. That’s who you are. You’ve always been that country boy. Always too humble. We’re trying to pull you out of your shell. You’re doing great. Tonight, was a solid country effort. I know you’ve got a couple of unique ways to attack it, which I didn’t get enough of this evening, so I was missing those moments where I’m like, ‘Oh, my God! Noah!’ But it was solid.” Leah Marlene, 20 Normal, Ill. Musician “Call Me” by Blondie Lionel: “I can’t sit down. The most important thing you have to understand is you’re in a lane all by yourself. As far as this competition is concerned, there’s only one of you. It’s endless where you can go.” Cameron Whitcomb, 18 Kamploops, British Columbia Pipeliner “Bad Moon Rising” by Creedence Clearwater Revival Katy: “I understand now why you have to flip because if you don’t get a burst of energy out, Lionel and I think maybe you’ll just blow up. At first, I thought, ‘He’s going into all these bad habits we told you not to do. Calm down! Calm down!’ But then when your voice went into the reggae, it was really cool. I don’t know what kind of case study you are, but honestly, you should bathe in lavender oil.” Christian Guardino, 21 Patchogue, N.Y. Kitchen Staff “Leave the Door Open” by Silk Sonic Lionel: “I don’t know if we’ve ever had this on American Idol. Can we get a root check? You see him and you hear him and it’s two different people. I wouldn’t want him in front of me under any circumstances. God has given you an amazing gift, enjoy this ride.” Katyrah Love, 23 Baltimore, Md. Homeless Youth Support Facilitator “Blame it on the Boogie” by The Jacksons Luke: “That was a great new look for you. You looked comfortable. You just put on a show. None of it was premeditated. Everything felt natural. It was a great, great job.” Fritz Hager, 22 Tyler, Texas Unemployed former Security Officer “Waves” by Dean Lewis Katy: “So, your hair’s different. It’s a little more rock and roll. You don’t look like a security guard anymore. What you gave us, I thought, was so spectacular. By the time you sang your last note, it was like, ‘Am I watching Kings of Leon? Am I watching Manfred & Sons? This kid is it.’ You are really and truly an artist and I think you believe it now because I can feel it from you.” The voting results from tonight will be revealed next week and two of these artists will be eliminated – well, maybe just one because Kenedi is already gone. American Idol airs Sunday and Monday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC. Next, Make Your Vote Count! How to Vote Online or By Text on American Idol 2022
