Is Kevin Costner Leaving Yellowstone?
The hit show’s season 3 finale left things in a precarious position for many characters, including patriarch John Dutton. After helping someone to the side of the road, he was shot, making his fate unknown. In an interview following the finale on Good Day New York, Costner was surprisingly vague when asked about the fate of his character. “I can’t say,” he said. “There’s an ending that you’re gonna see, hopefully, it’s a powerful one for you.” He went on to discuss how much he enjoyed being part of projects with a clear and dramatic arc and encouraged fans “just try to enjoy it right up to the end if you can.”
Why Kevin Costner May Be Leaving Yellowstone
Costner’s statement did anything but put fans’ minds at ease. It stoked a frenzy of internet discussion, with social media going so far as to wonder if he was fired from the show. Gossip Cop even alleged that Costner wanted to leave Yellowstone because the show was moving filming locations to Montana to have an easier time with health and safety protocols during the pandemic, possibly moving him away from his family. However, upon closer inspection, these rumors about Costner leaving Yellowstone are as good as fool’s gold. Good Housekeeping interviewed him in the middle of filming season three, where he confirmed he was getting to work on season four. He even posted a photo of himself filming in Montana on his Instagram. Additionally, while Costner has admitted he never initially intended to sign onto a long-running series, the writing and harkening back to previous projects like Dances with Wolves have kept him going. So Yellowstone fans should have no fear. Kevin Costner and John Dutton should be back for season 4, and with plenty of unfinished business to boot. And just this week, Costner posted a photo on Instagram saying he’s “Missing Yellowstone Ranch today. Can’t wait for you guys to see season 4!” Still bingeing the early seasons?
