One artist who was called out was Kesha, who wrote a song called “Cannibal” for her 2010 album of the same name, in which she references Dahmer. The lyric that caused intense backlash is, “Be too sweet and you’ll be a goner/Yeah, I’ll pull a Jeffrey Dahmer.” Now, Kesha’s mother, singer and songwriter Pebe Sebert, addressed the backlash in a TikTok video, explaining that she was the one behind the lyric. The video starts with Sebert in the car, with text over the clip reading, “I wrote the Jeffrey Dahmer lyric in Kesha’s ‘Cannibal.’” She then provides the context of how the lyric was originally written, noting, “That was my line that I wrote in ‘Cannibal.’ At the time, Kesha and the other writer were too young to even know who Jeffrey Dahmer was.” “Literally, the way it happened, I have this rhyming program called MasterWriter for songwriters. We were looking for a rhyme for ‘goner,’ and at the very end of the widest rhymes was ‘Jeffrey Dahmer.’ And I was like, ‘Oh my god, that’s a perfect lyric.’” she continued. Sebert then explained the true meaning of Kesha’s song, saying that it’s about how she wasn’t popular in school, but once she got famous, all the boys who bullied her were trying to get with her. She said, “It was a tongue-in-cheek funny song, it was not actually about cannibalism.” Still, Sebert apologized for any harm that came from her choice of words for the song, saying, “I’m sorry for anyone who’s lost a family member in this tragedy, we certainly never meant to hurt anybody, or make anybody feel bad.” The album Cannibal originally came out around 12 years ago, but with the release of the new series, a lot about Dahmer’s crimes and the entire case has come up again. Along with Kesha, Katy Perry received criticism for a lyric in her song “Dark Horse,” which references Dahmer. More News:
