The series jumps ahead several months from where season 4 ended to post-election day where a reluctant John Dutton has won the Montana gubernatorial election. Monica (Kelsey Asbille) appears to be about 20 months pregnant (see clip below) at this point and beyond ready to give birth while shenanigans continue at the bunkhouse.

The kids on the show are no longer kids as we remember them. Both Tate (Brecken Merrill) and Carter (Finn Little) had growth spurts between seasons with Little barely recognizable from the chubby-cheeked pre-teen we saw last season. It’ll be hard to beat the intensity and action-packed roller coaster ride we happily endured in the season 4 opener, but the season 5 premiere doesn’t disappoint.
